Gravitational Waves from Coalescing Black Hole Macho Binaries
نویسندگان
چکیده
If MACHOs are black holes of mass ∼0.5 M,, they must have been formed in the early universe when the temperature was ∼1 GeV. We estimate that in this case in our Galaxy’s halo out to ∼ 50 kpc there exist ∼5 # black hole binaries the coalescence times of which are comparable to the age of the universe, so that the 8 10 coalescence rate will be ∼ events yr per galaxy. This suggests that we can expect a few events per 22 5 # 10 year within 15 Mpc. The gravitational waves from such coalescing black hole MACHOs can be detected by the first generation of interferometers in the LIGOZVIRGOZTAMAZGEO network. Therefore, the existence of black hole MACHOs can be tested within the next 5 yr by gravitational waves. Low frequency gravitational waves from black hole MACHO binaries
The intensity of low frequency gravitational waves from black hole MACHO binaries is studied. First we estimate the gravitational wave background produced by black hole MACHO binaries in the Milky Way halo as well as the cosmological gravitational wave background produced by the extragalactic black hole MACHO binaries. It is found that the cosmological gravitational wave background due to black...

This article is intended to provide a pedagogical account of issues related to, and recent work on, gravitational waves from coalescing compact binaries (composed of neutron stars and/or black holes). These waves are the most promising for kilometer-size interferometric detectors such as LIGO and VIRGO. Topics discussed include: interferometric detectors and their noise; coalescing compact bina...

Different studies show that dark matter of non-baryonic origin might exist. There have been experimental evidences that at least one form of dark matter has been detected through microlensing effects. This form of dark matter is named MACHOs (Massive Astrophysical Compact Halo Objects). The MACHO collaboration estimated that the masses of these objects are to be in the range 0.15-0.95 M ⊙ , whe...
